Taylor Family Memorabilia and U. of I. Fire College

Captain Mel Taylor would attend the Champaign Fire College every June. When my brother and I were old enough he would take us up to see the fire demonstration. We always looked forward to this. In the picture with the pumper, I am on the far right, Red "Melvin" is in the middle, and out dad is on the far left. Captain Taylor and other Charleston Firemen also would attend the sessions on different days with fellow department men.
My brother Red always like to
have Sparky put on his registration badge. We have several of these badges as souvenirs of our relationship with the Fire Department and the exciting visits to the Fire College.
One particular demonstration I can remember was the actual burning of an old house in Champaign.  The house actually got out of control and finally was doused by filling it with "foam."  I was impressed with foam from that day on.
